• Inspecting surfaces to be tiled
• Providing quotes and estimates (e.g. number of tiles and quantities of materials required, installation time and costs)
• Surface preparation work (e.g. removing old grout and cement and cleaning and levelling surfaces)
• Laying tiles in accordance with tiling plan, cutting tiles where necessary
• Grouting gaps between tiles
• Carrying out finishing work, where necessary
• Install ceiling tile on walls or ceilings.
• Fasten drywall panels to the inside framework of houses and other buildings.
• Help build walls and ceilings.
• Mount decorative or functional tiles or blocks, strips, or sheets of shock-absorbing materials to ceilings and walls of buildings.
• Ensure walls are soundproofed.
• Measure and mark the surface according to blueprints and drawings.
• Nail moldings to the wall to support and seal the joint between the ceiling and the wall.
• Mount tile using adhesives.
• Press tile into place firmly.
• Remove chipped or defective tiles/ceiling.
• Add tiles for backsplash or decorative touches.

Requirements

• A school certificate and a tertiary education in ceiling and tile fixing or equivalent
• Mathematics and measurement skills
• Ability to use cutters and other tools of the trade
• Ability to follow specific tiling patterns
• Strong manual skills
• Accuracy, precision and attention to detail
• Strength and stamina
• Eye for design
• Ability to work without supervision
