The International School of Lusaka is one of the oldest and largest international schools in Africa. We provide a modern, student-centred education with curriculum from the International Baccalaureate Organization and other sources. We seek application from enthusiastic, qualified and experienced individuals for the following positions to start immediately:

1. Handyman

REPORTING TO: The Facilities Manager

Purpose of the Job: – The Handyman is required to perform routine maintenance tasks and other minor jobs at the International School of Lusaka or facility in accordance with the ISL’s quality and service standards.

Education, Knowledge and Experience

  • Evidence of vocational training in the area of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, masonry etc.
  • Working knowledge of general building and environment maintenance requirements
  • Valid Police Certificate of Good Character
  • Physically fit
  • Ability to climb ladders
  • Ability to operate standard tools and equipment in the performance of assigned Handyman duties
  • Working knowledge of Occupational, Safety and Health and welfare of people at work
  • At least three (3) years’ working experience performing Handyman functions in a commercial business establishment
  • Knowledge of relevant construction industry standards
  • Ability to operate a computer

  • Equivalent combination of qualifications, training and working experience

2. Driver/Mechanic

Reporting to: Facilities Manager

Purpose Of The Job – To ensure the safe movement of staff, students and cargo, safeguarding vehicles and ensuring that vehicles are well maintained.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safe Driving
  • Ensure passengers and goods are safely delivered to their destinations.
  • Comply with road speed limits and road signage at all times.
  • Vehicle Care
  • Carry out daily engine checks to ensure optimum levels of fuel and lubricants.
  • Ensure vehicles are regularly checked for roadworthiness.
  • Keep vehicles clean at all times.
  • Vehicle Maintenance
  • Ensure vehicles’ routine and preventive maintenance is done as scheduled to avoid motor vehicle breakdowns by reporting when repairs or service is due.
  • Report any vehicle malfunctioning immediately to ensure that the vehicle is repaired before the malfunction deteriorates.
  • Administration and Record-Keeping
  • Ensure that vehicles have valid licences for fitness, road tax and insurance at all times.
  • Maintain vehicle log books daily by noting the date, destination, departure and arrival times and submit reports to Facilities Manager.
  • Safely keep fuel receipts to assist with fuel reconciliation.

Required Education:

1. A minimum of a grade twelve full certificate or equivalent.

2. Must be a holder of a valid Class C Driving Licence.

3. Basic to advanced knowledge of vehicle mechanics.

4. Clerical work experience will be an added advantage.

Required Experience

1. At least 5 years driving experience.

2. Ability to drive long distances on both paved and gravel roads.

3. Experience driving children will be an added advantage.

4. Computer-literate. Proficiency in Email, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word are an advantage

Required Knowledge/Technical Skills/Competencies

  • Ability to provide off-hours transport support, including weekend pickup and drop-offs as needed.
  • A polite and professional disposition
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful driving situations (e.g. at rush hour)
  • Problem-solving and decision-making aptitude in logistical matters.
  • Punctual and reliable.
  • Team player.
  • Be courteous and calm at all times.
  • Dresses smartly.
