Macha Research Trust (MRT) is a health research organization based at Macha Mission Hospital near Choma, Southern Province, Zambia. The institute conducts basic and applied research for strengthening interventions against malaria, Influenza, COVID-19, TB, HIV/AIDS and other health problems. The Institute seeks to recruit a suitably qualified candidate to take up the position of Senior Entomologist.

JOB TITLE:  SENIOR ENTOMOLOGIST

REPORTS TO: Scientific Director

DETAILS OF THE JOB: Provide day to day supervision, guidance and direction to the employees in the Entomology Projects at MRT, including those working on medical entomology research in the field, semi-field and laboratories. Currently this role includes managing malaria vector studies.

Specific tasks include:

–      Writing study protocols

–      Designing field studies

–      Lead in recruiting, training and managing staff

–      Ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs)

–      Overseeing mosquito sample processing and lab analysis

–      Managing and analysing data

–      Contributing to manuscript preparation

–      Contributing to grant writing

–      Overseeing insectary and semi-field facilities

The Senior Entomologist will work closely with the MRT Management, Principal Investigators and Project Coordinators at MRT in assuring compliance with the necessary procedures for grant fund use and expenditure, as well as maintaining compliance with relevant Zambian government laws and regulations and internationally recognized research ethics considerations.The Senior Entomologist will also represent MRT in National Technical Working Groups and other national and international collaboratory efforts as requested and assigned.

ELIGIBLE CANDIDATE:

A) Ph.D. or M.Sc. degree in relevant field (medical entomology or similar)

B) Experience in conducting/overseeing entomological research

C) Experience in management/administration of research programs/projects

D) Good working knowledge of MS Office and software to manage and analyze data

E) African National, with priority given to Zambian citizen

F) Willingness to live in rural Zambia
