General Summary and Background

USAID Zambia Program for Advancing Supply Chain Outcomes (PASCO) is a commodity distribution program that aims to create sustainable access to safe, effective, quality-assured, and affordable lifesaving health commodities by strengthening capacity for transportation and distribution systems in consultation with the Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA).

The project seeks to recruit for the position of:

Job Title: Technical Reporting and Communications Consultant

Duration: Six (6) months with an average of 5 working days/month

Reporting to: Performance Monitoring and Data Analytics Director

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

The Short-term Technical Reporting and Communications Consultant will, in consultation with senior management and project technical staff, (i) support the development and/or editing of technical deliverables such as monthly reports, quarterly reports, annual reports, and associated presentation material; (ii) support the identification and development of communications material such as success stories, abstracts, factsheets, technical briefs, and newsletters, and (iii) work alongside a photographer to support the development of high-quality photos and videos to be used in reporting and communications.

Specific Tasks

  • Use information from discussions with project staff, interviews with partners, and data from monitoring and evaluation reports to support the development and/or editing of reports on project status and outcomes. Reports could include monthly reports, quarterly reports, annual reports, ad hoc reports, and associated PowerPoint presentations.
  • Support the development of communications material such as success stories, Twitter posts, website posts, abstracts, presentations, and articles that will enable the project to present its learning and accomplishments in a broader forum (to USAID/PEPFAR/PMI, Zambia development community, MOH, etc.).
  • Accompany and guide professional photographers/videographers to capture compelling scenes of project activities to use alongside written communication materials.
  • Support the development of communications materials for project events, such as banners, poster displays, etc.
  • Design visual concepts using graphic design tools such as InDesign, as requested.
  • Proofread, edit, and fact-check documents and reports.
  • Support the development of materials in compliance with the project’s branding and marking guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications, Experience, and Competencies:

  • Master’s degree in communications, English-language writing, public relations, or another relevant field required.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in fields such as communications, journalism, English language writing/teaching, or public relations experience required.
  • Strong technical report writing skills required, with documented experience leading the writing of deliverables with minimal supervision.
  • Prior experience with donor-funded development projects in Zambia preferred.
  • Experience producing communications pieces such as success stories, Twitter posts, Facebook posts, blog postings, and other online communications, preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word is required. Experience with publishing platforms such as Adobe InDesign preferred.
  • Fluency in written and oral English.
  • Analytical skills with problem-solving aptitude.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Location of Assignment: The location of the assignment is Lusaka, Zambia with intermittent travel throughout the country.
