Mabiza Resources Limited (“Mabiza”) operates the Munali Nickel Mine (“Munali”), which is located in Mazabuka District, 75kms south of Lusaka, Zambia. Mabiza is a wholly owned entity of Consolidated Nickel Mines Ltd.

The Mine is a modern, world class facility with fully mechanized underground operations. To support this vision, Mabiza Resources Limited is seeking the services of an experienced and qualified individual to take up the position of;

1.0  Role: Assistant Laboratory Manager

Reporting: Laboratory Manager

Job Purpose: To help control the smooth running of all day-to-day activities of the laboratory as well as ensure that mid and long-term laboratory objectives regarding safety, quality and budgetary constraints are achieved.

Responsibilities:

  • Carry out safety inspections to ensure that all equipment is safe to use, and that subordinate staff work safely.
  • Help to ensure the smooth running of the laboratory by updating and maintaining the laboratory.
  • Documentation (such as SOPs, risk assessments, etc.), and management of laboratory health and safety.
  • Help to design and implement a program for the measurement of new assays as required that is consistent and compliant with ISO17025
  • Help to ensure equipment is always in good working condition.
  • Help to ensure sufficient control of all chemicals and stock needed for the laboratory.
  • Perform tasks from time as required by the Lab Manager.
  • Ensure maintenance of the Quality System.
  • Help to ensure the writing of procedures and methods.
  • Help to ensure compliance with procedures, instructions, and methods of analysis.
  • Help to ensure that the maintenance, calibration and verification of all apparatus, equipment and instruments are updated.
  • Help to coordinate the results of the proficiency testing schemes.
  • Help to ensure the accuracy of all results and certificates issued to clients.
  • Ensure effective training of all staff members is conducted.
  • Help to manage the general laboratory to ensure that staff operate to a high standard
  • Help to ensure the budget is within costs.
  • Help to prepare the annual laboratory consumables and equipment operations and capital budget
  • Help to control the operations of the laboratory and its staff complement.
  • Help to handle client objections or complaints and work through any differences to achieve a positive conclusion for all parties.
  • Help to actively resolve any problems that occur either related to technical work issues, personnel, or the laboratory in general.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Grade 12 Certificate
  • Degree in Analytical Chemistry or equivalent
  • 10 years minimum testing laboratory experience
  • Computer literacy – General and MS Office intermediate

2.0  Role: Laboratory Chemist 

Reporting: Laboratory Manager

Job Purpose: To analyse samples submitted to the laboratory safely with the highest degree of accuracy.

Responsibilities:

  • Carry out safety inspections to ensure that all equipment is safe to use, and that subordinate staff work safely.
  • Identify and report any unsafe practices and equipment to the Lab Manager immediately.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of the laboratory and the application of good housekeeping practices.
  • Report any insufficient chemicals and stock needed for the laboratory in good time.
  • Perform tasks from time as required by the Laboratory Manager.
  • To assist the laboratory manager in the smooth running of all the day-to-day activities of the laboratory.
  • Help to ensure safety standards, quality tolerances, budgetary requirements and customer satisfaction objectives are met.
  • Guide all subordinate staff on laboratory safety and quality.
  • Perform tasks from time as required by the Laboratory Manager.
  • Help with the maintenance of the Quality System.
  • Ensure compliance with procedures, instructions, and methods of analysis.
  • Ensure that the maintenance, calibration, and verification of all apparatus, equipment, and instruments are updated.
  • Help to coordinate the results of the proficiency testing schemes.
  • Complete all quality-related documentation as required per shift.
  • Ensure the accuracy of all results and certificates generated.
  • Ensure all paperwork in your area of responsibility is completed correctly.
  • Report any non-conformances to the Lab Manager.
  • Ensure that the maintenance, calibration, and verification of all apparatus, equipment, and instruments are updated.
  • Compile monthly and weekly reports, on the performance of the laboratory and related departments, to the Lab Manager as requested
  • Aid the Lab Manager in his duties related to the laboratory, as required.
  • Help with the maintenance of the Quality System.
  • Aid the Lab Manager in his duties related to the laboratory, as required
  • Help to coordinate the results of the proficiency testing schemes.
  • Help control the operations of the laboratory and its staff complement.
  • Complete all quality-related documentation as required per shift

Skills & Qualifications:

  • 5 years minimum testing laboratory experience
  • Computer literacy – General and MS Office intermediate
