Background

The Zambia National Farmers Union (ZNFU) is a membership-based non-governmental association formed under the Societies Act and comprised of Zambian farmers and other players in the agricultural sector. The organization’s primary mandate is to lobby and advocate for its members’ interests with various organizations including the government of the Republic of Zambia.

The ZNFU now seeks to engage an ICT expert to help with the design and development of its official website.


Overview 

The work will be undertaken under the supervision of the Head of Administration in charge of administration and Information Technology Unit and in close collaboration with relevant team 

members. The web designer's main tasks will be to propose, develop and implement all elements of the front-end user interface for the ZNFU. The website platform will be the Zambia National Farmers’ Union (www.znfu.org.zm ). 


Tasks and Deliverables

  • The web designer's work and deliverables will include: 
  • Liaise with relevant units and team members to understand users' needs and identify corresponding user interface requirements, workflows, and functionalities. 
  • Create wireframes, storyboards, and prototypes to propose options for implementation (these will be sampled and reviewed by potential users). 
  • Develop corresponding user interface components (web templates, style sheets, scripts, images, etc,) as needed.
  • Integrate components in the ZNFU web design to allow review and testing, and make corresponding adjustments based on feedback received. 
  • The ZNFU website should present a new visual look and its functionalities enhanced to provide a better experience to users. 
  • Develop a user manual and deliver a webinar for the support staff and system administrators to perform content upload, system maintenance and administration. 
  • Support and maintenance: There will be a six months warranty period during which the consultant will be required to remedy any identified deficiencies arising from their work on the project.
  • The Consultant will deliver a full-fledged website operating with well documented technical specifications for the Union to be able to operate the system without recourse to the Designer of the website.
  • Carry out other relevant web-related tasks as requested.


Qualifications 

Education and Work Experience

Companies should demonstrate their qualifications and proven experience in the graphic design and technical implementation of user interfaces in a web-based environment. Candidates should provide a portfolio containing verifiable references of similar work done and their achievements. 


Technical Skills and Expertise

  • Minimum diploma in IT and/or other relevant certifications suitable for the task.
  • Solid understanding of the concepts of user experience, user interface design principles and conceptual design. 
  • Expert knowledge in HTML, CSS and JavaScript. 
  • Knowledge of Bootstrap, jQuery and AngularJS. 
  • Knowledge of industry-standard design tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Dreamweaver. 
  • Knowledge and understanding of the agricultural industry and work on digitalizing agro related content, particularly with respect to page template design, will be considered an asset.
  • Eye for design and attention to details are essential. Core Competencies

  • Communication – Good spoken and written communication skills, including the ability to liaise with technical staff and present information in a clear and concise style. 
  • Teamwork – Good interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relations in an environment that is not tech savvy and potential users not familiar with technical IT and Web design matters
  • Planning and Organizing – Ability to plan projects and activities, work to tight deadlines, and manage conflicting priorities. 
  • User Orientation – Ability to understand users' needs and to customize services and products accordingly, to provide user-friendly and ergonomic solutions that meet user requirements. 
  • Technological Awareness – Expert knowledge in the field of web design and user experience. 
  • Commitment to Continuous Learning – Willingness to keep abreast of new developments in the field of expertise. Languages 


Payment Terms

  • 25% of the fee to be paid upon submission of the first prototype, 70% to be paid after rolling out the website and 5% at the end of the grace period.


Delivery Period

The assignment is expected to be executed within the following timelines:

  1. First prototype to be delivered not later the 14th day.
  2. Final website to be delivered not later than the 30th day from commencement.
  3. Developer to maintain and monitor website for a period not exceeding 6 months after launch.


References of Similar Assignments

The consultant is required to submit at least three traceable reference of similar assignments clearly indicating the contact details of the references.


Language of Bid Document

Only one copy of the bid documents is required, and it should be in English.
